Weathering With You Film Tops Japan's Box Office in 2019 (Updated)

Japanese film news website Cinema Today revealed the top 10 highest earning domestic and foreign films for 2019 in Japan on Tuesday.

The domestic Japanese list consists of six anime, and two live-action films based on existing manga.

Weathering With You (14.02 billion yen, about US$129 million, amount as of December 8) Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire (9.37 billion yen, about US$86.2 million) Kingdom (5.73 billion yen, about US$52.7 million) One Piece Stampede (5.53 billion yen, about US$50.9 million) Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Chronicle of the Moon Exploration (5.01 billion yen, about US$46.1 million) Masquerade Hotel (4.64 billion yen, about US$42.7 million) Dragon Ball Super: Broly (4 billion yen, about US$36.8 million, opened in Japan on December 13, 2018) Tonde Saitama (3.76 billion yen, about US$34.6 million) Kioku ni Gozaimasen! (3.6 billion yen, about US$33.1 million, amount as of December 8) Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (2.98 billion yen, about US$27.4 million)

Last year, Gekijōban Code Blue - Doctor Heli Kinkyū Kyūmei topped the list with 9.23 billion yen (about US$83.6 million), and Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer ranked at #2 with 9.18 billion yen (about US$83.1 million).

The top-grossing foreign film of 2019 was Aladdin with 12.16 billion yen (about US$111.9 million), making Weathering With You the top highest-grossing film in Japan overall in 2019.

Last year, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom topped the list with 8.07 billion yen (about US$73.1 million).
